As part of The Hamilton International School’s efforts to highlight Qatari talents and inspire their students, the school hosted Mariam Farid, the first female hurdler to represent Qatar in the World Athletics Championships. The athlete shared her remarkable personal journey, and discussed some of her challenges and success with students, faculty, and parents, offering them a unique opportunity to gain insights into the world of professional athletics. Farid, an icon of determination and achievement, captivated the audience with her inspiring narrative. highlighting her international recognition as a female athlete representing Qatar at the 17th World Athletics Championships held in Doha in 2019, a momentous occasion that showcased her exceptional talent on the global stage.

Among her many achievements, Ms. Farid competed in the 200m event at the Junior World Championships held in Bydgoszcz, Poland, in 2016, further solidifying her reputation as a formidable athlete. During an interactive Q&A session, the Qatari hurdler emphasized the importance of resilience and perseverance in achieving one’s dreams, particularly emphasizing their significance for youth and women. “My goal is to inspire the younger generation, by breaking down barriers, and changing the perception of women in the Middle East. We are not oppressed. I can still compete with my scarf on.
